Looking fashionable, at times, can be very uncomfortable: Scratchy linens, painful shoes, tight, binding garments that pinch and bunch. You may feel tempted to just leave your pajamas on, or throw on sweats and a baggy T-shirt just to feel comfortable for once, but you don't have to look like a ragamuffin to be comfy. Below are a list of some articles of clothing that are just as comfortable as loungewear, but keep you looking fashionable and put together, no matter what you are doing, how you are feeling or where you are going. Keep a supply of the following on hand, and you are destined for constant comfort.
1. Leggings
They are just as comfortable as sweatpants and keep your legs just as warm, but they are an extremely versatile fashion article. Stock up on these, as they run cheap and take up very little space. Layer them under dresses or skirts, or wear them by themselves with a comfortable top and you are good to go. Unlike sweats or PJ pants, they flatter your figure and add a chic edge to your outfit.
2. Corderoy Pants
Corderoy pants keep you warm and comfortable when you don't feel like squeezing into jeans. Buy a pair that are a more relaxed fit and stay cozy and stylish on lazy days.
3. Flowy Skirts and Sun Dresses
Stay feminine while living in easy, breezy comfort. Keep in mind that there is no need to store them away when the weather turns nippy. Simply pull on a pair of leggings to wear underneath, and keep your arms warm with a comfy cardigan.
4. Quality Materials
It's true that you get what you pay for. If your clothing is chaffing, pilling, warping or shrinking uncomfortably, chances are, it is not made with quality material or sewn very well. A well-made garment lays smoothly against the skin, providing the comfort you crave. No money? Scour thrift stores for high-end brands at a fraction of the price. If the article of clothing is well made, it will still feel great when purchased used, even after it's been washed numerous times.
5. Un-boring Socks
Skip the bland, sloppy sweat socks. Stock up on socks in fun colors or with funky designs on them. They look great when paired with leggings and a comfortable pair of shoes. Buy them crew-length or longer for more warmth and less of a chance of blistered heels.
6. Lace-free Shoes
If slippers are your go-to shoe on lazy days, wear laceless sneakers instead. Slip-on sneakers and skimmers, or comfortable slip-on boots are just as effortless, without sacrificing your style. Not to mention flip-flops, which are an instant foot covering, no matter where you go.
7. Sweatshirt Blazers or Cardigans
Sweatshirt blazers are jackets that are tailored like a blazer, and worn like one, but are made of the same comfy, fleecy material as a sweatshirt. You can look just as sophisticated as you would in a regular blazer, while feeling like you're in your favorite hoodie. Cardigan sweaters are also a snazzier fashion statement than a sweat jacket, but just as comfortable and easy to throw on as you head out.
8. Sports Bras
Sports bras don't have to look like a sports bra. They can be found in much more figure-flattering designs that easily slip on, without the stabbing underwire or annoying, slipping, chaffing straps.
9. Accessories
Sometimes, all it takes to add instant fashion to a boring outfit is to throw on a scarf, a funky hat, or a necklace and/or bracelets. Even if a pair of sweats is all you can stomach, adding a funky scarf can go a long way.
10. Loose Material
Wearing tops that are skintight are very uncomfortable, and can also accentuate fat, rather than flatter your figure. Make sure the material hangs a little loose from your body for a better fit, and a much more comfortable one as well.
11. Camisole Tank Tops
Also known as a cami or spaghetti-strap tank, these super comfortable, super versatile tank tops are another staple to stock up on, in every color. They are great worn on their own, or layered under a comfy sweater or T-shirt. Most of them come with a built-in shelf bra, so you can wear them in place of a regular bra for comfort like nothing else.
12. Tunic Tops or Empire Waist Tops
These look great when worn with leggings. They are breezy, loose-fitting and they mask a bloated belly in a pinch. No need to squeeze into your clothing when you can wear these tops and let it all hang out without sacrificing dignity, fashion or modesty.
